Our story

Should a clinic even have a story…?  Well, ours does!

It all began with Dr. Nicole Thornicroft and a little health care clinic right here in London, Ontario.  You see, Dr. Thornicroft has never been like so many of her colleagues.  Brilliant – yes; caring – of course; ambitious – absolutely. But still, something about her take on health care always felt different. It took a few years of practice, some insight and experience, and even a few ‘aha’ moments along the way, but while working alongside patients, Dr. Thornicroft came to realize that the happiness of her patients as well as her own had as much or more to do with the trust and connection she built than it was about the treatment techniques she used.

And that was the moment Dr. Thornicroft set out on her own and founded Pro Function.

Things weren’t easy in the beginning; good things never are.  Dr. Thornicroft knew she wanted to continue practicing but this time with a focus on her style of treatment – Personalized, Approachable and Professional.  First, the question was where?
Being born and raised in the suburb of Lambeth, Ontario meant a location near south London would be ideal, since it would help her work with the community she loved and still lives in today.  But then was the question of how?  This hurdle was more difficult.  Dr. Thornicroft worked with a variety of patients from differing backgrounds; downtown city workers, teachers, young children, farmers.  They all needed a place to go, and a common thread to connect them.  Slowly but surely the picture came into focus – Sports!

Dr. Thornicroft knew that sports was a big part of most people’s lives, whether personally or professionally. It could be through organized team sports, going to the local cross fit gym, playing with grandchildren on weekends, or being part of a fundraising marathon; sports and being active had its place for many. Dr. Thornicroft didn’t waste a moment and she quickly forged an agreement with the largest indoor training facility in all of London, Ontario; Centrefield Sports Inc.

Centrefield Sports Inc. is an impressive 35,000 sq. ft. indoor training facility for everything from minor to elite sports, and this would be where Pro Function would open its doors in 2011.  Quickly growing to become an integral part of the local sports, industrial and small business community, Pro Function’s down-to-earth, 1-on-1, modern approach to chiropractic and physiotherapy treatment became the standard for exceptional care.

And since then, Pro Function has grown to now have two locations, and multiple practitioners, all working together as a team, collaboratively for the best possible care for the patients.  Located still in Centrefield Sports, and now as well in the heart of downtown London Ontario, access to quality, professional, personalized care is easier than ever.  We welcome you to our clinic and our team,

If you’re an athlete, at any level, you’ll want to meet Brooke.  Brooke Edwardson’s resume and skillset with athletes is extensive, and recently she added to her resume with a Masters in Advanced Health Care Practice in Sports and Exercise Medicine (AHCP-SEM) from Western University.   While in the program,  Brooke focused on all aspects of delivering comprehensive sports medical coverage for a wide variety of venues.  Additionally, she completed research on ACL-related injuries based on playing surface types in collaboration with several sports medicine and surgical physicians.  Brooke says the experience gave her one-of-a-kind insight into the risks, prevention strategies, and  keys to post-ACL surgical rehabilitation at the highest of levels.

Having originally graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy from Western, Brooke has quickly developed into one fo London’s brightest and most dynamic sports physiotherapists. Brooke sees patients both on and off the field and when in clinic, she chooses to treat at Pro Function’s sports injury clinic due to the fact that the facility has 40,000 sq ft of turf and two weight-training areas which allows her to really challenge her patients as they return to activity/sport.

Professionally, Brooke has worked in various formats with Skate Canada, the Toronto Rock, at both the Canada Games and the Ontario Summer Games, with the Toronto Triathlon, St George Rugby, Great Lake Canadians (GLC) Baseball, and right here in London as the lead physiotherapist with FC London. Additionally, Brooke works as a consultant for GM Canada and feels the physicality and endurance required with line-side work mimics many of the soft tissue injuries commonly associated with the training errors seen in athletes.

Outside of the clinic, Brooke loves finding creative ways to stay active and is up for the challenge of trying out a new sport or skill.  She enjoys running, rock climbing, hiking, water sports, and of course soccer!  She also loves to travel and spend time with family and friends.
