Dr. Derek Nash is a talented chiropractor that brings a diverse skillset and background to the table. Introduced as “Derek” in the office and “Dr. Nash” in writing, he has an amazing ability to communicate complicated body processes with patients. Dr. Nash is all about empowering patients to not just feel better but truly understand both their condition and how to manage it. He will work with your healthcare team to provide a comprehensive game plan.

Dr. Nash obtained his Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph and completed his Doctor of Chiropractic education at the New York Chiropractic College. While at NYCC he completed clinical internships with a division 1-3 college athletics program working with a variety of athletes competing in football, hockey, volleyball, baseball and wrestling. He also completed rotations through the United States Veterans Administration Hospital System where he treated a variety of complex spine injuries.

Derek brings a wealth of experience to Pro Function. He practiced in a Guelph, Ontario chiropractic clinic for six years and spent two years at the University of Guelph Health and Performance Centre where he was a Chiropractor for the Track and Field team. He is currently the team chiropractor for the Strathroy Rockets Junior “B” hockey program. You’ll find him at the rink in Strathroy every Saturday night through the winter and on the golf course Saturday mornings in the summer.

Growing up and currently living in the Lambeth neighborhood of London, Derek has always wanted to practice back at home full time. His goal is to share his knowledge with his community and help patients achieve their performance goals no matter how big or small.

Dr. Nicole Thornicroft is the co-owner of Pro Function. She is a Doctor of Chiropractic and graduated with clinical honours from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. She also holds a BSc degree (with distinction) in Health Sciences from the University of Western Ontario.

Dr. Thornicroft has completed post-graduate training in Functional Movement Rehabilitation, Athletic Rehabilitation, Kinesiotaping and Active Release Technique. She is also a certified provider of Graston Technique, Mulligan Technique, and Contemporary Medical Acupuncture from McMaster University. Dr. Jordan Kersten is a co-owner of Pro Function and is one of the very few sports-experienced chiropractors in London Ontario. He has two functional range conditioning certifications (FRC & FRA), in addition to his Certified Strength and Conditioning designation, giving Dr. Kersten one of the rarest and most unique educational backgrounds of any chiropractor in the Southwestern Ontario region.

Dr. Kersten graduated from McMaster University in 2005 with his Honours Bachelors of Kinesiology (BKin) degree. He then completed his 4 year Chiropractic Degree in 2009 from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, Ontario. While at CMCC, he also became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

In addition, Dr. Kersten is a certified medical acupuncture provider through the McMaster Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program from McMaster University. He is also a Certified Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist and has taken numerous other courses including Functional Anatomical Palpation (FAP), and Building The Ultimate Back: From Rehabilitation to Performance by Dr. Stu McGill.

Having achieved his 2nd degree black belt at an early age, Dr. Kersten played on numerous competitive athletic teams growing up, and working with professional and national level athletes, he has experience in diagnosing specific causes of pain and dysfunction using a variety of techniques. He treats the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms, and tailors the treatments to the specific individual and their injury.

Dr. Kersten’s overall approach to treatment is to provide evidence-based care that uses a combination of therapies and not solely spinal manipulations.

Nick Donnelly is a physiotherapy resident who’s passionate about helping people move with confidence. Whether that means getting back on the field, recovering after surgery, or simply staying pain free and active, Nick genuinely wants to dive it and help make it happen.

Nick earned his Masters of Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University, after
completing an Honors Bachelor of Kinesiology at Western University. Alongside his clinical
training, he contributed to research on concussions, with findings that have been published and presented nationally.

His clinical experience spans a wide range of populations and settings. Nick has worked with
athletes at all levels, from recreational athletes to elite hockey players, as well as those
managing complex conditions such as POTS. He also enjoys working with pediatric and youth,
patients recovering from surgery, and those returning to activity following workplace or everyday injuries.

Born and raised just outside of London, Nick is proud to serve the community where he grew
up. A Medway High School graduate, he played football and rugby, and spent countless hours training for baseball at Centerfield Sports, making his ability to work out of Pro Function’s South
location feel like coming full circle.

Nick combines his diverse experience to create thoughtful, individualized treatment plans that
blends exercise therapy, manual techniques, and education. His calm and collaborative

approach helps patients of all backgrounds feel supported and confident as they work towards their goals.

Outside the clinic, Nick enjoys staying active through sports and weight training, and remains engaged in research and professional development to advance physiotherapy practice.

Kate Johnston Weber is a versatile physiotherapist with an orthopaedic background and special clinical interest in pelvic health. A graduate of Western University’s Master of Physical Therapy program, Kate takes a holistic and individualized approach with her assessment and treatment planning, while also highly valuing participation in injury prevention. Collaborative action plans may include manual therapy, soft tissue mobilization, acupuncture, lifestyle adaptation, movement pattern training, function-specific exercise, and of course – education! Kate believes that providing the proper education is an essential piece of the rehab process to allow patients to make informed choices regarding their health. Kate has continued her own post-graduate education with courses completed in pelvic health, pregnancy-related conditions, labour and delivery, postnatal fitness, pain neuroscience, manual therapy, acupuncture, vestibular and concussion management. She has found a particular calling for supporting individuals within the perinatal period. Kate is keen on promoting appropriate exercise and activity during pregnancy, bolstering birth preparation and optimizing postnatal recovery. 

An enthusiast of diversified movement, Kate enjoys playing soccer, biking, weight-lifting, yoga and chasing after her two young boys – which could be considered a sport within itself!

Micheal Ly is a skilled physiotherapist who grew up right here in London Ontario.  When you arrive at the clinic to meet him, you’ll likely hear him say “Just call me Mike” which speaks to his easy going and approachable nature.  Having grown up in London Mike always knew that he’d one day like to bring his practice back here – which has been fortunate given his list of unique health care experiences.   

Mike’s background has offered him the opportunity to work with elite-level soccer players, Paralympic athletes, assembly plant workers, avid golfers, and of course every level of weekend warriors.  He also continues to do sports medical coverage at events and tournaments around southwestern Ontario, however, more recently Mike has focused his time back in the clinic where he’s found a keen interest in pre-op and post-operative (post surgical) rehab. 

Mike’s diverse background and adaptability to clients are the keys to his success in healthcare. However, if you ask Mike what he enjoys the most, he’ll tell you that it’s working with all types of athletes.
What types of athletes exactly does he mean? Well…As Mike likes to point out, athletes come in all shapes and sizes and he feels equally about working with them all, regardless of sport or skill set.  As Mike puts it, “Everyone requires a custom approach based on who they are and what they’re doing, it needs to fit them. After all, an athlete is an athlete!”

Not an athlete? No problem!Outside of the athletic population, Mike enjoys treating people of all ages and a wide variety of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. He believes that exercise and evidence should be central to rehabilitation and compliments this with manual therapy techniques.

On a personal note, Mike is a proud John Paul II and Western University graduate, and he is not afraid to show off his London roots while giving back to the community. When he isn’t volunteering his time at local sporting and charity events, he loves to be with his family and friends. Beyond the walls of the clinic, Mike enjoys working out, playing soccer and golf, as well as watching basketball and football – Go Packers!

Kathy Reesor has been working as a health care professional (physiotherapist and osteopath) for more than 30 years!  She bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to both London and our Pro Function team that few can say they’ve had the pleasure or working with. 

Kathy is originally from right here in London and she even completed her education at Western University.  However, Kathy has an adventurous side to her.  Knowing that she wanted to see more of the world, Kathy ventured out west soon after graduation and has grown her personal and clinical experience spending time primarily between Alberta and British Columbia. 

During her years away Kathy had the pleasure of working with an incredibly wide range of clients that ranged in age, athletic ability and venue. Kathy has experience ranging from high-level athletes to weekend warriors – from sprains and strains to some of the most complex cases you’ll find – from young children who need more “play” rather than “exercise”, to senior who… well… need more play and exercise!! 

The introduction and time spent with so many types of clients pushed Kathy to expand her skills well beyond that of an entry level physiotherapist. Some of Kathy’s notable credentials include a Certification in Gunn IMS dry needling, a Certification with the Canadian Acupuncture Association and even a certification granting her the credential of an Osteopath which includes craniosacral and visceral (organ) management and manual therapy. Kathy even has a special interest in the TMJ (jaw joint) and focused on this area of the body while completing her  has an osteopathic graduate thesis.

As many skills and honours as she has, Kathy is still as grounded and kind hearted as they come.  She feels that each client and every situation is unique and worthwhile, which is why after 30 years she is still deeply passionate about helping people – whether that means simply helping them through a pain free day or digging down deep with someone who has “tried everything”.  

On a personal note, and speaking to Kathy’s “everything is possible” spirit, Kathy was a varsity runner at Western who, despite multiple injuries including stress fracture, went on to become a competitive triathlete, adventure racer, mountain bike racer and kayaker!    She loves to backpack, camp and go on just about any outdoor adventure. Most of the time now, she is running around with her young twin girls.

If you’re an athlete, at any level, you’ll want to meet Brooke.  Brooke Edwardson’s resume and skillset with athletes is extensive, and recently she added to her resume with a Masters in Advanced Health Care Practice in Sports and Exercise Medicine (AHCP-SEM) from Western University.   While in the program,  Brooke focused on all aspects of delivering comprehensive sports medical coverage for a wide variety of venues.  Additionally, she completed research on ACL-related injuries based on playing surface types in collaboration with several sports medicine and surgical physicians.  Brooke says the experience gave her one-of-a-kind insight into the risks, prevention strategies, and  keys to post-ACL surgical rehabilitation at the highest of levels. 

Having originally graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy from Western, Brooke has quickly developed into one fo London’s brightest and most dynamic sports physiotherapists. Brooke sees patients both on and off the field and when in clinic, she chooses to treat at Pro Function’s sports injury clinic due to the fact that the facility has 40,000 sq ft of turf and two weight-training areas which allows her to really challenge her patients as they return to activity/sport. 

Professionally, Brooke has worked in various formats with Skate Canada, the Toronto Rock, at both the Canada Games and the Ontario Summer Games, with the Toronto Triathlon, St George Rugby, Great Lake Canadians (GLC) Baseball, and right here in London as the lead physiotherapist with FC London. Additionally, Brooke works as a consultant for GM Canada and feels the physicality and endurance required with line-side work mimics many of the soft tissue injuries commonly associated with the training errors seen in athletes. 

Outside of the clinic, Brooke loves finding creative ways to stay active and is up for the challenge of trying out a new sport or skill.  She enjoys running, rock climbing, hiking, water sports, and of course soccer!  She also loves to travel and spend time with family and friends.

Kat Fraser is a dynamic and highly diverse orthopaedic physiotherapist with two particular clinical focuses; Pelvic Health and Sports Injury. A graduate of Western University’s Masters of Physiotherapy program, Kat believes a focused 1-on-1 treatment approach is the key to every patient’s success. Before becoming a physiotherapist in London Ontario, Kat practiced marine biology (yes, that’s right, she was a Marine Biologist!). Although she excelled as a biologist, Kat felt more connected to people, but believes that her advanced education and life experiences have helped shape her professional instincts and are part of her success as a physiotherapist. Of course, Kat isn’t simply successful as a physiotherapist – she’s a stand out! Troy is known for his in-depth knowledge and skills in the field of physical therapy and his passion for working with his patients and students. He has advanced skills and expertise in orthopaedics, manual therapy, pre- and post-surgical rehab, sports injuries, and pain management. Troy is from Rothesay New Brunswick and graduated from Dalhousie University in 2001. After completing two years of clinical practice in inpatient orthopaedics at the Saint John Regional Hospital in New Brunswick, Troy’s desire to pursue advanced education led him to drive halfway across the country to complete his Master of Research in Physical Therapy at Western University, graduating in 2005. He has been in clinical practice as a physical therapist in London Ontario since then.

Troy pursued his professional development further by becoming a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manual and Manipulative Physical Therapists (FCAMPT) in 2009 and completing a Clinical Doctorate in Physiotherapy in 2013. These credentials helped lead him to become an active instructor teaching advanced manual therapy skills to other physical therapists through the National Orthopaedic Division since 2010, and his role as an associate professor in Western University’s School of Physiotherapy since 2008. In 2011, Troy was awarded the Part-time Teaching Award of Excellence at Western (Health Sciences), as determined by student feedback and reviews.

Troy’s passion regarding education is the central core of his treatment approach. He is known for providing clear information to increase understanding of clinical conditions, and he ensures that patients are full partners in their goals and treatments. Troy offers a range of treatments including manual therapy, condition specific exercises, modalities (such as ultrasound), and medical acupuncture/dry needling. Angela Growse is a skilled orthopaedic therapist with particular clinical interest and expertise in Pelvic Health, Manual Therapy, Pre- and Post-Natal Care, the Menopause Transition and Pain Science, with a background in complex trauma. A graduate of the McMaster Physiotherapy program in 2003, Angela’s diverse clinical background creates a wide lens through which to see her patients. She believes that all aspects of your life will influence how you experience and recover from pain or dysfunction and she will work with you to ensure you can play big in all your life’s adventures.

Angela’s treatments may include movement re-education, manual therapy, medical acupuncture/dry needling, or pelvic floor retraining. However, it always includes education, lifestyle support, and goal setting to ensure what she does matches what you want to achieve. Her practice is inclusive and trauma informed. She loves to laugh and is also comfortable holding space for you, whether you are a struggling new parent, dealing with embarrassing leaks, or facing a debilitating injury that’s keeping you from your roles in life.

Outside of her clinical practice, Angela loves to teach. She has a Bachelor of Education  and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manual And Manipulative Physical Therapists (FCAMPT). She’s been a regular guest lecturer for the Physiotherapy programs at McMaster University in burn care and amputee rehab, and at the University of Western Ontario in orthopedics and pelvic health. She also spent over 10 years as an instructor with the National Orthopeadic Division. Her current teaching  is centred around menopause education as a seminar leader or invited guest speaker.

Erik Schmidt is one of Pro Function’s co-owners … but he’ll tell you he’s ‘just a physio’.  Before building Pro Function, Erik worked in a number of areas in Ontario and even outside Canada.  But Erik was born in London Ontario, his family is here and eventually he found his way home to lay down roots. 

After graduating from Queen’s University with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy, Erik split his professional time between sports medicine with some of Canada’s National athletes, lecturing medical students at the North School of Medicine (NOSM), and working weekends at long-term care facilities. It’s unusual for a physiotherapist to work in so many different corners of the profession at the same time, but Erik says the work gave him an appreciation for how to adapt his skills to suit a very wide range of people and needs. 

Three years into his career, Erik came back to London and re-united with his original colleagues at Body Mechanics Physiotherapy, both at the Bellwood Plaza and Byron locations.  He also continued teaching, only this time with Western University, the Orthopeadic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and with the Mulligan Concept (a patient-driven treatment approach first developed in New Zealand).   

Academically, Erik completed a second advance practice Masters of Clinical Science  (MClSc) at Western University and went on to become a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manual and Manipulative Physical Therapists (FCAMPT) – an internationally recognized and highest possible Canadian designation. Soon after that, Erik went on to chair the London Orthopeadic Division and is currently the past-president of the National FCAMPT executive of Canada. 

Back in the clinic, Erik is a down-to-earth and dynamic physiotherapist with the unique ability to work with anyone. From London, to Thunder Bay, to South Africa, Erik has extensive experience with an impressive range of patients, skill levels and professional backgrounds. He can provide his services in  English, French or German!

Outside the clinic, you can find Erik…well outside! (He’s always outside!) Erik loves anything and everything to do with the outdoors, travel and sports. Jon graduated in 2011 with honours from Brock University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree which was followed by a Masters of Physical Therapy degree at Western University in 2013. Since graduating, Jon has continued to obtain advanced training through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s Manual Therapy Levels system, anatomical acupuncture, soft tissue release, the Mulligan concept and advanced Concussion and Vestibular management.

Jon treats a wide variety of orthopaedic conditions but has a particular clinical interest in concussion management, vestibular rehabilitation and sport injury rehabilitation. Jon understands and values the important of evidence-based care in order to provide the highest quality rehabilitation to his clients. Jon is also an Assistive Devices Provider.

Stephanie Van Erp was the very first Registered Massage Therapist to join our Pro Function Health Care Team and she brought with her a hunger for learning and a passion to help people. Stephanie graduated from Westervelt College’s Massage Therapy Program and is driven by her interest in human anatomy and learning new therapeutic techniques.  Stephanie is also very unique in her practice given the amount of time and effort she commits to working alongside our very our Physiotherapists and Chiropractors in an effort to understand how her approach to massage can maximize the care her clients receive.

Stephanie also takes a lot of pride in her clinical practice and works hard to provide the best care and experience for each and every visit of her patients. Therapeutically, Stephanie is well versed in Deep Tissue Massage, Prenatal massage and soft tissue Cupping techniques.

Outside of the clinic, Stephanie spends a lot of time with family, sitting by the campfire listening to AC/DC with her dad, or trying a new recipe with her sister. She also has two crazy nieces that keep her on her toes and loves just staying home watching movies cuddled up with her cats

Jacob Moloy is an energetic massage therapist (RMT) with more than 16 years of clinical experience.  Naturally gifted with a clinically-orientated mind, Jacob started his career with what was back then the unique approach of evaluating and structuring treatment plans that focused on injury resolution rather than merely comfort and relaxation.  Fortunately, over the years massage therapy as a health care profession has evolved and caught up to Jacob’s approach – but even so, it hasn’t caught up to his skills!  

Jacob offers a very unique range of clinical services, including sport massage, deep tissue massage, cupping therapy, exercise prescription and therapeutic ultrasound, Jacob’s commitment to awareness and practice adaptation in order to maintain the most up-to-date clinical skills is a testament to his personality, his patient following, and his career success in the field.

Kristan Carvalho graduated from Fanshawe College’s Massage Therapy program. She is experienced in Deep Tissue Therapy, Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Prenatal Massage, and is certified in Cupping Techniques. Kristan is a passionate Massage Therapist who takes pride in developing a professional relationship with each and every one of her clients as well as their specific bodily concerns and needs.

Away from the clinic, Kristan enjoys friends and family time, working on her fitness, and curling up with her two cats. She also highly enjoys travelling, with most of her wanderlust bringing her to Europe. Kristan is also very proud of her Portuguese background, and speaks the language fluently.

Dr. Anna Toporowska, BHSc, ND is a board-certified Naturopathic Doctor who utilizes a whole-body approach to help patients find the root cause of disharmony and prevent further illness. She has a special interest in neuroendocrine conditions including mental emotional health, stress and sleep disorders, hormonal support, prenatal and paediatric care as well as digestive health. Dr. Anna is also a Certified Yoga Teacher and has completed additional training as a Naturopathic Doula, supporting women in pregnancy, labour and post-partum. 

Simplifying health is at the core of her approach, focusing on optimized nourishment, lots of movement and good rest. Judy is an experienced Canadian Certified Pedorthist with a special interest in helping walkers and runners. She understands that addressing foot and lower limb pain requires more than simply providing a custom insert for a shoe. Education about the injury, about footwear choices, about basic exercises and about activity modifications in addition to potentially referring to other practitioners are all essential components to her unique approach.

After graduating from the University of Waterloo’s Kinesiology program, Judy first began her career in exercise rehabilitation working alongside physiotherapists in an orthopaedic based clinic. As a running enthusiast with her own share of injuries, Judy has naturally developed a keen interest in the biomechanics of running and gait, which has in turn motivated her to further her career in the field of pedorthics. 

Judy is a graduate of the inaugural Certificate in Pedorthics program through Western University. This program later progressed into an extensive Diploma program for which Judy has been both an instructor and practicum supervisor. Judy now has over 25 years of combined experience in rehabilitation and pedorthics.

Jon is an experienced Canadian Certified Pedorthist with a unique ability to identify underlying mechanical problems in individual walking and running patterns.  This means that Jon is just as likely to suggest specific shoes, basic support adjustments, rehabilitation, exercise, physiotherapy or other non-orthotic solutions as he is a custom orthotic solution depending on the specific needs of the patient.   Jon’s is often described by his patients as an excellent listener and his approach is patient and methodical. 

Additionally, like the other members of the Pedorthics London team Jon prides himself on his ability to fabricate and make adjustments to shoes and custom orthotics on-site while with his patients. This allows him to gather instantaneous feedback about comfort, balance and foot positioning without constantly having to send his products offsite.  Jon specialty is footwear modification (or custom shoe modifications) which is a unique aspect to his practice.

Although she isn’t one to boast, Alexa’s focus and dedication to efficient and welcoming customer service has spanned more than 20 years… and not solely in the field of healthcare and medicine!

Alexa’s experiences allow her to quite easily connect and relate to our patients. In fact, it’s been said more than once that her natural demeanour simply makes the whole healthcare experience more fun and enjoyable!

Brindley Jantzi

Brindley Jantzi is the chief patient liaison for Pro Function’s downtown health care team. Brindley joined Pro Function in 2020 and brings with her a level of experience not only unique for Pro Function, but for health care as a whole.

What do we mean by ‘unique to health care as a whole”? Well, Brindley is the first, and based on our research, the ONLY health care administrator to be recruited because of her background in luxury hospitality and service.  “What’s that you say – hospitality and service??” That right!  Pro Function’s approach is to push boundaries and find ways to continuously improve a patient’s experience… and why not? We all feel patients deserve to be greeted with a little elegance and class, and Brindley suits this perfectly.   

Prior to moving to London, Brindley’s career was as a customer service provider in a luxury boutique hotel in Stratford Ontario.  There, she was immersed in the hospitality, travel, tourism and customer service industry.  She felt the unorthodox challenge of bringing hotel hospitality into a clinic environment was both exciting and brilliant. In her own words, Brindley says, “I am passionate about being able to assist people. At Pro Function, I can combine my background in hospitality with my interest in health care to provide the best possible customer experience.”

Over and above her background and skill set, Brindley in no stranger to the health care setting.  Brindley graduated from Western University and during her time there, she competed as a varsity shot put and weight throwing athlete for Western’s Track and Field team.   Brindley has also played softball and volleyball since childhood and has competed in those sports at a National level. It was through sports and injuries that she found an interest in the health care field. She feels that many positive chiropractic and physiotherapy experiences helped play a significant role in her achievements, as well as her ability to perform at the highest levels of her sports. 

Outside of the clinic. Brindley can be found on the ball diamond playing slo-pitch, helping her parents on their farm, or taking a physical break and enjoying the odd video game!

Pauline Tremblay brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Pro Function’s administration team. Often working behind the scenes, Pauline’s primary role is to manage and maintain the integrity of each and every patient account entrusted to Pro Function. Billing, invoicing, approval status and communication with 3rd party insurance companies, motor vehicle insurance companies and WSIB are all seamless because of Pauline’s efforts – and because of her work, patients and clinicians are able to stay squarely focused on delivering quality health care and optimal results! 

Having worked as a registered massage therapist for more than 15 years with London’s own Body Mechanics Physiotherapy, Pauline is able to appreciate how important it is for the patient and the therapist to be 100% focused during treatment sessions. She understands the difficulties and hardships that paperwork, miscommunication and finances can have on a person’s recovery and she knows that her role in reducing these inconveniences plays a big part in a person’s path to recovery.

Following her retirement as an RMT, Pauline transitioned to become a central administrator for Body Mechanics, earning her the skills and insight to understand the language and navigation needed when working with administrators and insurers. Having worked on both the therapeutic and the administrative sides of a health care team allows Pauline to hold a genuinely unique understanding of how to manage both the people and the paperwork of a busy clinical environment. Without question, this is why she is so intricate to the ongoing success of Pro Function.
